Tuesday, 9/6, My trip so far

This has been a very fun trip at this point. We just returned to DC last night. Here is what we have done so far:

Friday - I arrived in DC around 6:30. We immediately hopped on the Chinatown bus to NYC (poor planning on our part), but it was very convenient. We arrived in NYC around Midnight and went straight to Conor's apartment in East Village. From there Justin, Mackenzie, Conor, and I went to a bar near Conor's they call Church. We ran into Rachel Jacobsen, Jesse Latham, and their friend Yin at the bar. We also met up with Rachael and Sarah Dodson, Dan Wuebben, and Dana Naughton and just drank outside at the bar for a few hours. Conor had been talking shit about how good he was at air hockey, so we all went to a bar below his apartment called Cheap Shots to play. He was right - he kicked everyone's ass, to our disbelief. After that we all grabbed some beer and slices and had after hours at Conor's place.

Saturday - We slept in, then J-Bone, Mac, and I went for brunch and Mimosas at a cafe called Life. We met up with our friend Nate and his girlfriend Nellie, and went back to C's to wake him up and do something. We met up with Steph Drootin and her friend Sandra from LA, and went to Cheap Shots for some air hockey and drinks. A few were hungry so we went to a cafe called Yaffa for food and drinks and met up with Rachel J, Jesse L, Yin, and their friend Jesse. We ate and drank for a while then Jesse L and Rachel J went to a movie, while C, J-Bone, Mac, and I went back to Conor's to relax for a while. After a few hours we talked to Steph and as it turned out they never left Yaffa! We all went to Doug Koepsel's place in Brooklyn where he was having a barbecue. Sam Frazier was there along with everyone else that I was with earlier. We ate and drank (once again) out on Doug's back porch, and it was a nice relaxing evening. Everyone I was with (C, J-Bone, Mac, Nate, Nellie) wanted to leave, but I wanted to stay, but I figured I better hop in a cab with them. Conor wanted to play more air hockey, so we did. This time I beat him 7-1! Rilo Kiley met us at the bar (in town to play MSG opening for Coldplay?), so we all went upstairs to Conor's for late night. It was a fun time hanging out with them.

Sunday - Since we hadn't really left the Village other than a quick train and cab ride to and from Brooklyn, we wanted to do some things. So the 4 of us met up with Jenny Lewis and walked trough Times Square to Central Park, where we met up with Nate and Nellie. We just walked around the Park and hung out a couple of hours. After that we went to a bar called Jekyll and Hyde, some weird place with a haunted house effect to it. Weird but fun. Then we went back to the Church and met up with Jason Boesel, had some more drinks, and then J-Bone was unsurprisingly ready to pass out. Conor wanted revenge on me in air hockey so we went back for more and he beat me twice, 7-5 and 7-6. Much more competitive at least, I didn't score more than 1 each game the first day. At least my win over him wasn't too much of a fluke. Oh, funny thing about that place. Conor was "outed" in a NY magazine that is kind of like the Reader in Omaha only better, with things to do what is going on, etc. It said in there that Cheap Shots is his favorite hangout where he is always playing air hockey. Pretty funny. So after that everyone wanted to go upstairs. So I found a bar I had not been yet, had one drink, grabbed a slice then went to C's.

Monday - Our bus left at 12:30 so we grabbed a bite to eat then hit the bus. We arrived in DC around 5:00. We came to Justin and Mackenzie's, made some dinner, relaxed, watched some of the football game, watched the 2 episodes of Rome and 1 of
Entourage that we missed and went to sleep. We all needed a night off.

Tuesday - That is now. I'm about to get in the shower, Justin and Mac are at work. They live about 3 blocks from the train so I am going to learn my way around a little, check out the Washington Monument and some other things, and grab some food.

Almost forgot, the Huskers played the other day. Yeah, it sounds like they weren't so hot, but at least the defense played well, and remember it was the first game. Most teams, sometimes even good ones are sloppy. The most (or least) improvement often happens between games 1 and 2. If we come out and play really well against Wake we are in fine shape. If not, it could be a long year.

Hope everyone is having a good week. I'll post back in the next day or 2.
