It's Friday and I know I am ready for the weekend. I'm sure I'm not the only one. Tonight is the big Bright Eyes - Spoon - Dave Dondero - Willy Mason show at the Orpheum. I can't wait. I believe we are going to La Buvette beforehand if anyone wants to meet up there.
It's funny time. We're going to the Daily Show for this one. For those that don't watch it, you need to - it's on Comedy Central and new episodes are weeknights at 10. Reruns are on all the time too and it is hilarious. Here is an open letter from the Daily Show to Scooter Libby:
Dear Libby
On Friday, ending days of speculation in the media and mild confusion in the public, the Vice President's Chief of Staff Lewis "Scooter" Libby was indicted on five felony counts in the Valerie Plame CIA leak scandal. It's believed to be the worst thing to happen to him since he was given the nickname "Scooter."
President Bush took to the White House lawn to address the Libby indictment, saying, "Today I accepted the resignation of Scooter Libby. Scooter's worked tirelessly on behalf of the American people and sacrificed much in the service of this country." He added, "Not least of all his morals, his integrity and his pants. 'Cause they're on fire. Had to be sacrificed. Sacrificial pants."
The president spoke for less than a minute, devoting just a few sentences to the Libby affair before moving on to more optimistic matters, like, "I got a job to do and so do the people in the White House. We got to protect the American people and that's what we'll continue working hard to do." He continued, "For one thing, I have a feeling the terror threat's gonna rise in the next few days. You guys are gonna need some help."
Other Republicans chimed as well, also attempting to remain upbeat. When that failed, they attempted to refocus the indictment, as Newt Gingrich did saying, "Well I think it's a serious challenge to our whole system. It really makes it harder to recruit good people to come to Washington." Even worse is its effect on bad people coming to Washington. They're completely demoralized... Or rather, "moralized."
The Website also has video links. In a post earlier I talked about the White House going to Ethics training. Visit the link above and go to Ethics Class to see what the Daily Show has to say about it. Really, go to all the Daily Show videos, they are all hilarious.
Hopefully I will see a lot of you tonight. If not everyone have a great weekend, and of course my football picks will be posted tonight or tomorrow.
